Axxes second in top ten Great Place To Work

For the fourth consecutive time, Axxes has secured a spot in the top ten of the Great Place To Work in Belgium, an international survey of the best workplaces. This year, we even achieved the 2nd place in the top 10 Best Workplaces Medium companies and were honored with the special award 'Employee Empowerment'. It's a wonderful recognition of our efforts to keep not only our clients satisfied, but also our colleagues. This is our recipe for success!

If you were to ask ten people on the street what they consider important, chances are you'd get a variety of answers. One person might say honesty is paramount, while another may prioritize becoming wealthy. Similarly, companies vary in their values, but it's crucial to reflect on those values. Especially if you want to attract ambitious individuals, you must have a distinct identity.

At Axxes, everything we do has revolved around the symbiosis of three factors for years: Growth, Quality, and 'Feel Good'. The combination of these three has earned Axxes four consecutive nominations as a Best Workplace. The first factor, Growth, is self-evident: as we grow, we have a larger budget to launch new initiatives. Our organization grows annually by at least 20 percent, resulting in 265 consultants and staff members at Axxes, alongside an equal number of freelancers working for us.

Quality is naturally found in our work: our consultants are driven by it, and through our Competence Centers and initiatives like Axxes Academy, they gain the necessary knowledge and certifications. Moreover, we extend this Quality to the events we organize. Few companies can boast having their own event manager on staff, but our Jill has been ensuring that conferences like Haxx and Re:factor reach the next level every edition for ten years. An IT safari, fully digital conference, or DJ set between the talks? Check!

And then there's the 'Feel Good' factor, experienced both during and after work. Think of our training sessions, keynotes, sports events, LAN parties, and even our own Axxes motor club! With so many activities now, we introduced a weekly newsletter to keep track of them all. These initiatives weren't started to showcase Axxes' values but often arise from an original idea from a colleague. The fact that everyone knows suggesting ideas is more than welcome is the greatest compliment we can receive.

The good cause

Under the umbrella of Axxes Connect, we also organize various activities with a societal impact and support charities that are involved in IT in one way or another. Hack Your Future, for example, trains minorities or people with a migration background to become IT professionals and build their future.

Currently, more than 20 Axxes consultants are coaches at Hack Your Future. Every Sunday between October and June, they conduct workshops, and some have also become mentors to students. But it doesn't stop there: even our HR staff members are involved. They teach skills such as crafting a CV or LinkedIn profile and provide guidance on what to expect in a job interview.

Bednet is another charity that we support at Axxes. Through our conference Re:factor, we raised 9000 euros to enable chronically ill children to attend classes digitally. But we do more than just donate money. Our consultants devised a cloud solution for the Bednet platform and are now assisting them in developing a web interface.

An own identity

Axxes is committed to creating its own identity, which serves as a guiding principle in everything we do. These values act as a compass in challenging times - and the past two years have certainly been challenging in many ways. This is especially true for a company like Axxes, whose employees work at various client sites.

Therefore, we have doubled down on clear and transparent communication, as well as digital events where we come together for activities such as wine tastings, yoga sessions for relaxation, or learning opportunities through our digital in-house conferences. As soon as it was possible in September, we organized Haxx On The Beach in Mallorca. The result? By focusing so strongly on our own identity, 99% of our colleagues will say they work for Axxes, even though they are deployed at client sites on a daily basis. The employee survey conducted as part of the Best Workplace election revealed that 97% of our employees are satisfied at Axxes!

The fact that we don't see our colleagues as just a number is evident as soon as you step into our office. From onboarding, everyone knows who you are, you have a personal point of contact within the HR team, and you are assigned a buddy within Axxes. It's no wonder that Axxes scores 98% on camaraderie in the anonymous Great Place to Work employee survey. Furthermore, 99% of Axxes employees believe that they are treated fairly here, regardless of their ethnic background or gender.

The right person on the right project

In recent years, we've conducted an exercise to assess whether our values are still relevant and aligned with how we run Axxes. The result is a renewed vision and organizational structure. With the introduction of the Leagues, where teams specialize in specific technologies, new roles and responsibilities have emerged, such as Team Captains. This allows us to improve and ensure our qualitative follow-up. At the same time, it's convenient to bring together people with expertise in one technology. This enables them to evolve faster and more effectively.

In the future, we aim to continue focusing on personal guidance by captains and the HR team, both on and off the project. This tailored approach, with extensive personal follow-up by coaches and the HR team, is quintessentially Axxes.

Employee Empowerment

This year, Axxes was awarded the special "Employee Empowerment" award, a theme that is close to our hearts. Employee empowerment is a topical issue. Change is everywhere. Corona has brought about these changes at a rapid pace and requires a new way of working. In such turbulent times, it is necessary for businesses to think ahead about how to deal with these changes. This requires a considerable amount of flexibility and agility.

Great Place to Work recognizes Axxes as a proven agile organization with exceptional attention to its human capital: the employees. By providing digital training, fostering teamwork, and offering new, challenging projects, we give our employees the confidence and power to continue developing themselves. This benefits both individuals and businesses, a win-win that we absolutely strive for at Axxes!
